Ride Jumping Pound Ridge

This short weekend getaway gets you right into the mountain scenery of Kananaskis Country. This area is famous for it’s beauty and has been featured in movies like “Brokeback Mountain”.

Whether this is a short getaway from daily life or to see a snippet of the wilderness while your are exploring Canada’s wild west – this trip will expose you to great views, sounds and scents and the feeling of being “out there”.

The itinerary below is an outline of what to expect, rather than a fixed agenda. We may have to alter the plan if conditions like weather, bear activity or river water levels make a trail unsafe.

The Itinerary

Arrive at the M&M Ranch near Bragg Creek at 10 am. After meeting the team, we will issue your kit bag (sleeping bag, sleeping mattress and duffle bag) and you have time to pack your personal items into the duffle bag. We will then meet the horses and get to know them while grooming, tacking and getting on them in the arena to adjust stirrups and get a feeling for the horse. After a picknick lunch at the ranch, we will load up and take a short drive to our trail head. We load up the packhorses with the gear and food for the next 2 days and set off on our 3 hour ride into Camp. We set up camp together and enjoy a good campfire cooked meal.

After a hearty breakfast, we will set off on a day ride without packhorses over Jumping Pound Ridge. The views from the top are breathtaking. After about 6 hours we return to our camp.

After breakfast we break camp and load up the packhorses who will depart with a wrangler. Depending on weather and interest in the group we can choose 2 different routes to return to our pick up location at Little Elbow where we will be collected around 4 pm. After returning to the ranch we will turn out the horses and say our farewell’s.

Moose Mountain Weekend Feedback

“Awesome, Awesome and oh , by the way , Awesome. This was the trip of a lifetime. (…) This is for you if you want genuine horseback experience and not a plastic “Dude Ranch” holiday. Spectacular!!! “

Simon and Jo - August 2017

“What can I say, but Neil, Undine, Wendy and the rest of the Moose Mountain team totally met and exceeded our expectations. From the booking, payment, communication, pickup and match to our horses, they got it 100% right. The horses were all magnificent, well looked after and totally matched to the rider. The rides, scenery and organisation were second to none.

Margaret, Australia 2016

The MM team led by Undine and Neil set the standard in outdoor horse riding due to their professionalism combined with family atmosphere. The capabilities of the horses are incredible and they are uncomplicated too. The camps were fascinating and food excellent and prepared with love.”
