Half-Day Lessons

4  half-day lessons. Saturdays 1:00PM-4:30PM

Our “Earn Your Spurs” lesson program is designed for anyone who wants to learn the basics of riding a horse, get into trail riding, horsemanship and how to take care of a horse in general. Horses are incredible and complex animals, we love and respect them and try to initiate the same in our students. We are offering blocks of 4 lessons that go over general riding basics and horsemanship over a 4-week course.

Earn Your Spurs – Level 2

Now that you know how horses communicate, we can focus on communicating back to them and learn to be a responsible partner to them.

Level 2 Details

Earn Your Spurs – Level 3

The canter is the fastest but also smoothest gait. It can be intimidating for a novice rider. We get started on a lunge line but will spend the afternoon on the trail.

What to expect

All lessons are customized to accommodate what the riders want to learn or freshen their skills up on. We focus on a balanced seat, gentle control and general trail riding skills – since that is what we and our horses are good at! Lessons are taught both in our outdoor arena and on the trail. On the trail, we practice rein control, independent riding and decision making and negotiating trail obstacles.

Generally, time for grooming and tacking is the responsibility of the students and is not included in the lesson time, unless those are skills that need to be learned first. In that case we include the time to teach proper grooming and tacking within the first few lessons. Afterwards, please allow yourself enough time to prepare your horse for the lesson (typically about 20 minutes). Any new student will be shown tacking “our way” and also where to find the tack and grooming tools during the first lesson.

Lesson can be booked as private or semi private. If you do not have someone to book lessons with but don’t mind more students in your group, we will pair you with a rider of similar ability. Semi-private lessons are quite effective as it is often helpful to watch others and learn from eachother.

Please contact us to arrange a time for a lesson!

Our Advice

Please allow practice time between Levels depending on your previous experience with horses. For example, if you start as a beginner, you should allow at least one practice session between Level 1 and 2 and at least two practice sessions between Level 2 and 3.

Practice Sessions

It’s hard to do your “homework” without a horse at home! Riding is a fun and rewarding sport but as any new skill, it takes a bit to get good at it! The Earn Your Spurs Level course will give you a lot of information in one day,  but everyone learns differently. In addition to the group sessions, we offer one-on-one Private Lessons or semi-private Group lessons. Those lessons can be booked just like an appointment any day of the week between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm. Later lessons can also be arranged upon request, but are subject to availability.
