THE ITINERARY

Plan to arrive at the ranch at 10:00AM to check in. After an introduction to our team, we will teach you the basics about horse handling and horsemanship. You will then be hands on and get to know your four-legged partner for the next few days as well as learn to groom and tack. After lunch, we will go for a relaxing afternoon ride on the ranch. After we take care of our horses, you will be issued your kit bag (duffle bag, sleeping bag and mattress). Dinner is served in our guesthouse, where you will sleep in a comfortable bed for the night.

After breakfast, we will ready our horses, load up, and drive to the Little Elbow Trailhead. We will load up the packhorses with the gear and food needed for the next few days and ride for a couple of hours to our private campsite in a beautiful mountain meadow.

After a hearty breakfast cooked over the campfire, we’ll saddle up and head off for a day’s ride in the surrounding mountains. Depending on the weather and people’s inclination, it could be a 3-4.5 hour ride. We’ll return to camp in time to relax and hang out by the river near camp.

We’ll break camp in the morning and try to be on the trail by 10:00. Depending on inclinations, the ride back to the trailhead will take 3-5 hours. From there we will trailer back to the ranch, and say our good bye’s by 4:00. Hopefully we will have whet your appetite for more adventures in the back-country!

Get a Taste of Adventure

This trip is designed for people who have limited experience with horses and want an introduction to horseback riding and backcountry camping. It will also suit people who want a relaxing ride in beautiful country.

Time is split between learning basic skills at the ranch, and 3 days riding in Kananaskis Country . The itinerary below is an outline of what to expect, rather than a fixed agenda. We may have to alter the plan if conditions like weather, bear activity or river water levels make a trail unsafe.

“I went on the 4-day Elbow Teaser Tour. It was hands-down one of the best experiences of my life. Everyone at Moose Mountain is so kind, friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The Elbow Valley where we were riding each day was absolutely stunning. We saw beautiful meadows, mountains, creeks, rivers, and a waterfall. Experiencing the beautiful scenery on horseback is nothing short of a magical adventure. We were also able to see a few wild horses and a flock of mountain sheep!”

Andrea B,

Great pack trip. Wonderful folks, great horses, beautiful country.”
