Fall Spectacular
7 day vacation

experience level: intermediate-experienced

Experience the best time of year in Alberta! The crisp and vibrant colours of autumn and comfortable accommodation to come home to make this trip particularly special.

THE ITINERARY

We pick you up from the Calgary International Airport (YYC) around 4:00 in the afternoon. It is about a 1 hour drive to ranch, welcome and check-in. Meet & greet and dinner at guest house.

After breakfast, you will meet “your” horse. After grooming and tacking you can get comfortable in our arena first before we head on our first ride to Whiskey Ridge

A four hour ride is planned in the foothills west of Bragg Creek, folllowed by some time to tour and shop in the hamlet of Bragg Creek before returning home for supper

North Fork is a 23 km loop southwest of the ranch offering some stunning views of the Rockies. This one takes us through the aspen forest, which should be stunning in late September.

We’ll trailer the horses a bit further into the mountains this time, and explore the upper Elbow Valley. There are more evergreens in this area where you will pass beneath 3000m mountains and splash through the icy waters of the Elbow. Our route will depend on how hard everyone wants to ride, but there are many trails to choose from.

We’ve saved a ride over Powderface Ridge for the last day as a culmination of the week. From the 2100m high summit you will enjoy sweeping views of over a hundred kilometres to the east, and almost as far to the north and south.

Departure is normally scheduled for 9:30, which will have you at the airport (or other Calgary location by 10:30.

Fall in the Rockies

Our favourite time of year is when the aspen trees turn golden yellow and the mountains get their first dusting of snow. The air smells fresh, the play of light and shadow is dramatic and the colours are vibrant. The Eastern Rockies is an ideal place to experience this natural spectacle.

Fall is typically the driest times of the year. Nights are cool but the day time highs are typically in the high teens to mid-20s.

At the beginning of the week we will pair you with a horse partner to match your skill set to be your companion for the week. You can also try different horses throughout your stay if you like variety.

Accommodation

The guesthouse at the M&M Ranch, which we lovingly call “The Barn,” is an ideal place to get together, enjoy the fall scenery of the foothills and experience western hospitality. Set on 522 acres in the foothills, our ranch is a beautiful place to enjoy the true colours of fall in the Rockies. With aspen forests that shine golden yellow leaves while snow-capped mountains stand majestically behind them, you will feel like you stepped into a photograph while you enjoy fall with us. “The Barn” equally reflects the atmosphere of the foothills with a cozy and unique space to relax in at the end of the day. Enjoy coming back to this warm space at the end of a beautiful fall ride and watch the horses play in the meadow while you enjoy a cup of coffee and relax.

All meals are made fresh using as many local ingredients as possible, some even picked from our own garden or using the eggs from our chickens. We are proud to feature products from local businesses such as our coffee, which is roasted right in Bragg Creek. The menu changes daily and offers local dishes, but also internationally inspired cuisine. We take pride in preparing all meals from scratch that are creative and delicious.

Breakfast and Dinner are served in our guesthouse.
Lunches are held on the trail as a picnic in a beautiful location.

We are happy to accommodate dietary needs and specifications given prior notice to your stay. Please note that we do not serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own favourite beverages.

“We’ve been wanting to go on a ride for a while and finally had the chance to do this for our anniversary and what a perfect time to go with all of the fall colours showing their beauty.”

Beso,

“It had always been my dream to ride western style on a ranch in Canada and that dream could not have been more perfectly realized during our stay at Moose Mountain. The horses were fit, safe and expert at the terrain, the lodge was beautiful and the food all freshly home cooked and actually the best we had during our 3 weeks in Canada!”

Naemoor,
